Vorkommen.
Mexico. Bundesstaaten Sonora und Sinaloa. In verschiedenen Bodenformationen bis 1100 m Höhe.

Buschartig variabel, Wuchshöhe und Durchmesser 1-2,5 m, Triebe grün, 10-25 cm lang, 1-1,5 cm Durchmesser, gehöckert, Areolen wollig, Dornen 3-7, verschiedenfarbig, nadelförmig, 0,5-1,2 cm lang.

Blüte gelb, bis 1,5 cm Durchmesser, Frucht variabel. Samen 10-15 je Frucht.

Cylindropuntia thurberi ist nahe verwandt mit Cylindropuntia versicolor.

Das Artepitheton 'thurberi' ehrt den US-amerikanischen Forscher George Thurber.
